Treatments Offered
Pelvic Organ Prolapse
Loss of normal vaginal support resulting in a sensation of pressure or bulging in the vagina. Treatments include:
- Pelvic floor physical therapy: Conservative and personalized program of pelvic floor muscle strengthening utilizing biofeedback, electromyography, and electrical stimulation
- Pessary: A personally fit silicone device that is placed into the vagina to elevate the pelvic organs and improve bulge symptoms
- Surgery: We offer multiple minimally invasive options for the repair of pelvic organ prolapse. Procedures are individualized based on patient symptoms, anatomy and preferences. These include vaginal reconstruction, laparoscopic, or robotic approaches
Stress Urinary Incontinence
The leakage of urine with activities such as coughing, laughing, sneezing, or changing position. Treatments include:
- Lifestyle modifications: Bladder retraining, fluid management, avoidance of bladder irritants
- Pelvic floor physical therapy: Conservative and personalized program of pelvic floor muscle strengthening utilizing biofeedback, electromyography, and electrical stimulation
- Incontinence pessary: A personally fit device that is placed into the vagina to prevent urine leakage
- Surgical therapy: Procedures include urethral bulking (Bulkamid®), mid-urethral slings, and pubovaginal slings
Urgency Urinary Incontinence
The leakage of urine associated with the strong sudden urge to void that cannot be deferred. Treatments include:
- Lifestyle modifications: Bladder retraining, urge suppression techniques, fluid management, avoidance of bladder irritants
- Pelvic floor physical therapy: Conservative and personalized program of pelvic floor muscle strengthening utilizing biofeedback, electromyography, and electrical stimulation
- Medications: Several medication options which help the bladder relax to decrease bladder spasms and reduce urgency and urge incontinence episodes
- Posterior tibial nerve stimulation: Office-based procedure that involves the temporary placement of an electrode into the lower leg to improve urgency symptoms
- Botox™: Office-based procedure where Botulinum toxin is injected into the bladder to help the bladder relax and reduce urinary urgency, frequency and urinary incontinence
- Sacral Neuromodulation (InterStim™/ Axonics®) : Minimally-invasive, outpatient procedure where a permanent electrode is placed into the back to reduce urinary urgency, frequency and urinary incontinence
